Biella Group increases earnings

Biella Group, the largest European producer of lever arch files and ring binders, improved earnings by CHF 2.2 million (€1.9 million) to CHF 3.2 million (€2.7 million) in 2017.

This was achieved despite lower sales due to market conditions, as well as operational pressures from a steep rise in the cost of raw materials, logistics and personnel in Poland.

The market for conventional office supplies again saw a decline in 2017 due to ongoing digitalisation in the working world. A steep rise in the cost of raw materials, logistics and personnel in Poland also had a negative impact. However, Biella said it still managed to record a positive operating result again, even if it did fall slightly short of the previous year's level mainly due to ongoing measures to increase productivity, as well as strict cost management.

The sales of the Biella Group fell slightly to CHF 130.7 million (€111.6 million) in the reporting year, previously CHF 133.3 million (€113.9 million). At 71% (previous year: 70%), the proportion of foreign sales saw a minor increase. While sales of standard office products continued to suffer due to negative market developments, sales of personalised office products in Switzerland were up considerably.

There were numerous new product developments, the most noteworthy of which was the digital ring binder "Biella SimplyFind Data Safe". With this solution, which is fully cloud-based in Switzerland, the Biella Group has launched its first purely digital product.
