Office Depot to pay $35 million settlement

Office Depot and software firm Support.com Inc have agreed to the US Federal Trade Commission $35 million following allegations the companies lied to people that their PCs were infected with malware in order to charge them cleanup fees.

Office Depot, which will pay $25 million, and its software supplier Support.com, which will pay $10 million, allegedly deceived customers by claiming software had found malware symptoms on their computers.
