Canon's CEO warns HP about future relationship

Canon’s CEO Fujio Matari has said that the company will cut ties with HP if Xerox’s takeover bid for HP goes ahead. Xerox launched a takeover bid on Monday for all outstanding HP shares.

HP is among Japanese manufacturer Canon’s biggest customers, buying laser-printer components, which generates almost 14% of Canon's sales.

In an interview in the Nikkei Asian Review, Canon CEO Fujio Matari said: "The foundation of this partnership is, above all else, built upon a relationship of trust between the top management of both companies, including HP CEO Enrique Lores and Tuan Tran, head of its printing division.

"At the same time, it also involves a great deal of technological exchange gradually established over the decades-long relationship."
