Early BTS sales up 10%
| 11 September, 2014
GfK Consumer Choices reports positive sales for the beginning of the back-to-school period in France. Based on information from 5800 hypermarkets and supermarkets, GfK reports that Writing instruments and stationery sales were up by 12% (10% in unit sales) during the first three weeks of July compared to the same period in 2013.
However, this promising start needs to be looked at in the context that it represents only 11 to 12% of back-to-school sales. Also, sales for the first three weeks of July 2014 have not regained the level of 2012 (54.7 million euros in 2014 against 55.7 in 2012).
According to Marc CHEMOUIL, Gfk CC Stationery, sales trends for the 2014 back-to-school season will become clearer when results are obtained for the period after August 19, when many French parents receive government aid for school supplies.
